Report: 2017 Jeep Wrangler could gain aluminum unibody and turbocharged mills
Big news comes in about the next generation Jeep Wrangler, due as a 2017 model in just a few years.
In a new report from AutomotiveNews, Fiat’s CEO revealed the new Wrangler could ditch its rugged body-on-frame chassis for a unibody setup, and this is bound to get some fans riled up.
Nothing is official, but Marchionne said it would be in a move to keep reducing Jeep’s CAFE rating by using less metal to reduce weight. This is a bit concerning since the Wrangler has remained virtually the same design wise to keep the off-road enthusiasts happy. Making the Wrangler more like a clumsy mall crawler is bound to make a lot of fans angry.
So stay tuned on this latest development.
