Report: Daimler could end up buying Aston Martin

Aston Martin is currently owned by Mercedes-Benz’s parent, Daimler, by five percent while the Silver Arrow will provide AMG engines for future Aston models.

Now, CARandDRIVER recently heard Daimler is boosting their interest in Aston Martin as a whole, meaning they might just flat out scoop the British marque off of its feet. As of this latest report from C/D, Daimler executives are split half and half on their decision as whether or not to proceed. Half of Daimler sees Aston as an item of value while the other half believes its too risky. We won’t lie, an AMG-powered Aston Martin doesn’t sound like a terrible idea.

Aston is in a bit of a struggle in terms of ensuring the long-term stability of the brand so that they could exist a decade or two down the line. With nearly their entire lineup beginning to show its age, Aston needs a hand moving into the next generation of cars. Daimler could prove to be very resourceful while Aston could provide a lot of pedigree and reputation.
