Report: Ford working on a Toyota Prius competitor

Ford is in the rumor mill by way of Reuters, who recently learned that the Dearborn-based automaker is seeking to build a dedicated hybrid model to compete directly with the Toyota Prius.

Reuters apparently spoke to “company insiders,” who leaked information by saying it would be introduced in late 2018 and the new model will solely be offered as a hybrid. It’s been also codenamed the C240 as the new model is to be built on the brand’s latest C2 platform, the new architecture destined for the next-generation Ford Focus and Ford Escape.

Not much else is known, though there could be different hybrid powertrains with varying potency as well as a possible plug-in hybrid version.
