Nissan is apparently working on a production version of the IDx Concept, a model originally intended to pay tribute to the original rear-wheel drive sports sedan, the Datsun 510 compact. The IDx Concept was introduced at the 2013 Tokyo Auto Show.
According to a recent report from Australia’s CarAdvice, word is that Nissan is currently developing a production model, despite the fact that Nissan’s vice president of product planning for the US, Pierre Liong, said a production model doesn’t make a viable business case. However, after speaking with Nissan’s vice president of the same position for global operations, Keno Kato, Mr. Kato’s words say otherwise, stating a production IDx is currently being engineered for production.
Kato stated his authority over Mr. Liong and said Liong has no idea what he’s talking about. Additionally, Kato shared that the IDx has a 50/50 shot of being officially approved for production. However, the biggest issue with the production IDx is what platform to use for the new model as the IDx’s goal would be a direct competitor to the Toyota GT 86.
