Report: CAR interviews the man responsible for making Toyota and Lexus more interesting

Meet Karl Schlicht, Toyota’s and Lexus’ product chief, which UK’s CAR Magazine recently interviewed. While most automotive executives are fairly prominent for obvious reasons, Schlicht deserves more honorable mention because he is mainly responsible for Toyota’s and Lexus’ turnaround, making their cars more engaging and ultimately more exciting to drive–something none of us would have postulated to happen in the near future, but it is.

The latest example is the Toyota GT 86, which Schlicht is partially responsible for, particularly in Europe. Additionally, some of the brand’s other models in Europe and even their global Lexus models seem to be injected with more connection to the driver–and the plan isn’t letting up any time soon thanks to Schlicht’s determination to continue injecting excitement into Toyota and Lexus.

So far, he shares that Toyota is planning a new global architecture, promising the brand will offer more exciting cars like the GT 86. Originally, the GT 86 was a major test for the brand to see if they were capable of producing a dynamically competitive car and the GT 86 thoroughly proves that. And to keep the ball rolling, the same sort of excitement will define the performance of Toyota’s New Global Architecture.
