Mazda confirms the arrival of 2016 MX-5 Miata, due in September
Mazda has officially confirmed that the next generation MX-5 Miata will be revealed later this year in September as the small Japanese automaker celebrates 25 years of its famous compact rear-wheel drive sports convertible.
It will mark the fourth generation of Miata after its chassis was revealed at this year’s 2014 New York International Auto Show earlier this year. As expected, it will utilize Mazda’s current SKYACTIV philosophy to keep weight down and fuel economy and fun elevated.
“We’re excited to make this official, to announce that the newest member of the MX-5 Miata family will be arriving soon,” said Jim O’Sullivan, Mazda USA’s current president and CEO. “Along with our colleagues around the world, we continue to celebrate the MX-5’s 25th anniversary and look forward to sharing even more news in the near future.”
The event will be held at Mazda’s Laguna Seca Raceway where the automaker will also attempt a Guinness World Record.
