Report: Alfa Romeo hints at a high-performance 4C

The Alfa Romeo 4C recently began selling in the United States, marking the brand’s triumphant return to the North American market as a high-volume car maker.

And to sweeten the air around Alfa’s return, word is via CARandDRIVER that Alfa may be planning a high-performance 4C. After speaking to the brand’s CEO, Harald Wester, C/D learned that Alfa is aware of the potential for more horsepower from the 4C’s turbocharged 1.75L four-pot, which is rated at 136hp per liter. Wester also said that the 4C’s carbon fiber chassis can handle some extra power and high-performance brakes would be added should the 4C see a boost in power.

Wester didn’t specify, but the current 4C produces around 235hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, launching the car past 60 in just 4.5 seconds for a top speed that can exceed 155 mph.
