Video: Mercedes-AMG confirms the GT’s new stonking 4.0L twin-turbo V8

Mercedes-Benz released a teaser video evolving around the highly-anticipated Porsche 911-fighting AMG GT. The video focuses more so on the AMG GT’s stonking 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 good for more than 500hp and 479 lb-ft of twist.

The engine’s internally coded as the M178 and has a relatively impressive dry weight of just 460lbs. This is accomplished with a lightweight construction like pistons, overhead camshafts, and flow-optimized cylinder heads made with a unique zirconium alloy. Additionally, dry-sump lubrication is used so there’s no need for a conventional oil pan. Additionally, the engine features a nano-slide coating, assisting in reducing friction losses.

This same engine will not only see duty in the AMG GT, but in the next generation C63 AMG as well.

Check out the video after the jump.
