Report: Subaru planning a supposed SVX revival with hybrid six-cylinder boxer

Australian media, Motoring.com, reports that Subaru is apparently in the works with a possible SVX revival. The SVX was originally a two-door sports coupe built from 1991-1996 and was designed by Giugiaro.

This could mean that the Japanese sports car wars are heating up again. Word is that the SVX could feature a shooting-brake design while being built on Subaru’s next-generation Subaru Global Platform, the same one destined for the 2016 Tribeca.

The decision was encouraged by high dealership demand from those located here in the good ‘ol US, claiming high demand for a performance grand touring coupe to enhance the brand’s image and to expand the customer base.

Should all hold to be true, all-wheel drive is expected as well as a 3.3L direct-injected boxer-six engine with a plug-in hybrid system sourced from Toyota for an estimated output of around 375hp.

A market launch goal of 2017 is planned.
