Report: Toyota preparing new fuel-cell vehicle for launch later this year

Toyota seems to be jumping on the next big trend for alternative propulsion: hydrogen fuel-cells, which Toyota’s North American CEO recently vouched as the future of motoring.

Adding to the pool, JapanTimes reports that Toyota themselves are preparing a new hydrogen fuel-cell model, according to a recent report. The model will launch later this year and will be limited in production, which should be no surprise.

Should everything pan out smoothly, the model will cost around the equivalent of $78,025 at today’s current exchange rate with the Japanese Yen. Seems a bit pricey, though we can most likely expect a lower price point for the customer in the form of subsidies from the government. Costs are expected to decrease regardless overtime as well as an increase in production.

No specifics were shared about the car, but a teaser was provided by Toyota’s last fuel-cell concept, the FCV.
