Report: The 2016 Mercedes-Benz Gelandewagen expected to lose up to 825lbs

Mercedes-Benz is preparing some big changes for its next Gelandewagen–a car that the brand has chosen to continue making, following an ancient yet tried, tested, true, and beloved recipe that nobody wants to see disappear.

Despite this the Gelandewagen will need to change eventually in order to keep up with the times and to fulfill the expectations of government mandates, like fuel economy. As a result, Automobile reports that the Gelandewagen will lose up to 825lbs, which is a serious diet–more than several fat Americans. With the current G550 tipping the scales at 5,578lbs, this is obviously a much-needed diet.

A new design and construction is expected as well as a shorter roof and more aerodynamic styling tweaks.

The entry-level model will receive a twin-turbo 4.0L V8 good for 460hp while the G63 is expected to continue with a twin-turbo 5.5L V8 good for around 570hp.
