Report: Lincoln open to the idea of a Ford Mustang-based performance model

Word in the pipeline via Edmunds is that Lincoln may be interested in building a Ford Mustang-based performance model to instill some excitement into the brand otherwise known for old people’s cars, fleet limousines and black cabs.

According to the report, Lincoln’s global director, Matt VanDyke, didn’t exactly downplay the idea, nor did he confirm it to be true.

“We know that we need to get into other setments with other vehicles,” he said, “we won’t rule out anything,” hinting at the use of more Ford vehicle platforms. Let’s just hope this doesn’t repeat Lincoln’s history of rebadging Ford models with little to no change.

So far, Lincoln is on the path to introduce a completely new generation of cars, starting with models such as the new MKZ and MKC.
