Report: MG may be back with a sports car, could return to the US

British car maker MG may be in the works with a new sports car. But better yet, word is from Edmunds that they may reenter the US market.

Specifics are still in the unknown, but should the report hold to be true, MG could potentially reinvigorate themselves in a market that they’ve been absent from since the 1970s, leaving off with the famous MGB roadster.

Following decades of financial turmoil and mismanagement, MG has been struggling ever since and was purchased by the Chinese in 2005, with hopes of rebuilding the brand. Yet, nothing really has been able to amount from the new ownership. But for those who are looking for a resurgence of MG, this may be the next chance.

According to the report, MG’s current and latest owner, SAIC or Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation, has a new “2014 model agenda,” suggesting that a research and development for a new model could be in the works. This however, would mean that production is still several years off.
