Report: BMW i5 in the works, should be ready by 2017 with a 200 mile range

CARandDRIVER recently learned that BMW is preparing the rumored i5 for a release sometime in 2017. According to the report, the i5 will essentially be an enlarged and more powerful i3 and should even be stylistically similar.

The i5 will supposedly sport an electric motor good for around 165hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. It could potentially receive an upgrade due to the increase in size and weight, which means a larger lithium-ion batter will be in order. The i5 will also come optional with the i3’s range-extending 1.5L TwinPower turbo three-banger.

A projected price of around $50,000 is expected.
