Report: Volkswagen Golf R 400 could have more than 400hp

Volkswagen shocked the world when they announced to be producing the well-received Golf R400 Concept at the Beijing Auto Show last month.

Now, some details have surfaced by way if CARandDRIVER, who learned that the production variant may actually have more than 400hp, after speaking with Volkswagen’s research and development head, Heinz-Jakob Neusser. These hints came after Volkswagen AG became a focal point at this year’s Vienna engine symposium.

The engine will reportedly be a seriously upgraded 2.0L turbocharged TSI four-banger mated to a six-speed DSG transmission with 4MOTION all-wheel drive. 0-62 is expected to happen in just 3.9 seconds with a top sprint pegged at 174 mph.
