Report: Next-generation Jeep Wrangler could get aluminum body

It seems that aluminum is seriously gaining popularity as LeftLaneNews reports that Chrysler may be jumping on the bandwagon with the new Jeep Wrangler.

Following Fiat/Chrysler CEO’s major plan announcements, Marchionne also hinted at the possibility of the Jeep Wrangler receiving an aluminum body to help reduce weight.

According to the report, Sergio was quoted for saying, “we need to take weight out” and “we know we need to update the architecture.” But how far is Fiat going to go to change the Wrangler? The reason why the Wrangler hasn’t received an extensive architecture update is because it is also the Wrangler’s selling point, providing lots of off-road capability–similarly to the Mercedes-Benz Gelandewagen and Land Rover Defender.

The new Jeep Wrangler is set to come out sometime in 2017.
