Report: Porsche could be preparing new Cayenne-based crossover coupe
Word in the rumor mill is that Porsche could be in the works with a new coupe version of the Cayenne crossover, which would indicate that the Zuffenhausen automaker may be readying a competitor to examples like the BMW X6, the Range Rover Sport, and the production version of the Mercedes-Benz Concept Coupe SUV, the MLC.
The new model is supposed to be due sometime in 2018 and if produced, will be made on the same platform as the third-generation Cayenne and Macan. There will also be a five-door version to better compete against the X6 and Mercedes.
Not much is known, but the new model could carry up to a 15-20 percent premium over the standard Cayenne, simply because our industry is obsessed with “less is more.” The Cayenne’s arrangement of engines are expected to carry over.
