Report: Next generation Audi Q5 to go on 100kg diet

New details are beginning to surface surrounding the next generation Audi Q5 crossover, which is supposedly due for a launch sometime at the end of 2016.

The new model is described to go on a diet as it gets mounted on top of Volkswagen’s latest MLB modular platform, the same platform destined for the next-generation A4 and other models, including the new Q7. Weight savings are expected to hover around the 100kg mark, or 220lbs.

The new generation Q5 will also get trendy like the rest of Audi’s offerings by incorporating the automaker’s latest matrix LED headlight technology. The inside may also house the TT’s new Virtual Cockpit design, modernizing the Q5 even more.

Expect the typical selection of four- and six-cylinder gas and diesel engines, which are to be reworked to provide better fuel economy and more power. A plug-in hybrid variant with Audi’s e-quattro system is also expected.
