Report: Aston Martin SUV is 3 years off, possibly

The small British marque is currently in the process of begging its increasingly involved stepfather for new toys. In other words, Aston is trying to negotiate a Mercedes chassis as a basis for its upcoming SUV. Likely to give the long wheelbase Rangey something to think about, Aston is looking to base their next project off what will become the 2018 Mercedes GL-Class SUV.

Aston, is not dipping a toe in the water with some sort of chic, volume-selling, lifted shooting brake like the Range Rover Evoque, but moreover going full-bore on a substantial SUV, likely capable of tacking a little bit off offroad challenge and a lot of seduction, at least for the class. These indications though are sketchy and there’s still a chance that Aston might do this one on their own and keep as much original as possible. At this point at least, the SUV, which will likely come in two wheelbase variants will not be in the volume-selling class of the Porsche Macan, but it may start out a tick under Bentley’s SUV.
