Report: Audi R8 to eventually receive a compact turbocharged engine

Audi’s R8 engineers recently shared some news to AutoCar in the UK, who said that the R8 could eventually receive a smaller turbocharged engine.

Last month, rumors were floating around indicating the next generation R8’s use of carryover engines, including the 4.2L naturally-aspirated V8 and the 5.2L V10, which is also related to the motor found in the Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4.

The new R8 will also stick to an all-wheel drive setup with a dual-clutch seven-speed transmission. The smaller engine could take form in a six-cylinder since a there would be too big of a difference between a V10 and an inline-four. Additionally, due to engineering changes, the new Audi R8 has been delayed until 2015.
