Report: Mercedes clings onto new MRA platform to build more than 10 models

Mercedes-Benz and Renault-Nissan are in a gentlemen’s agreement with each other and are collaborating on a variety of future projects. One of the areas of focus is platform sharing, which the two will work on together so that each brand can share technology and build a range of new cars. One of the platforms that was rumored to be shared was Mercedes-Benz’s new compact MRA platform. But according to a new report fromĀ Motoring, Mercedes will be keeping that platform to themselves.

This will allow the company to produce up to 10 new models in the future, according to Dr. Thomas Weber, Mercedes’ head of research and development. Rumors in the past indicated Infiniti’s possible usage of Mercedes’ new platform for their new subcompact. This will no longer be the case.
