Report: Daimler and Infiniti developing new platform for new models

Automakers forming huge alliances seems to be the new buzz today next to streamlined platforming and production, sales wars, and niche filling. And the latest development on this trend of alliances comes from the most recent partnership between Daimler and Infiniti.

After speaking with Infiniti’s boss, Johan de Nysschen, the first car to be produced from the new platform will be in 2017, in lieu of the original 2012 agreement. Through the agreement, Mercedes will also license and supply transmissions to Infiniti.

Not much else is known about the future models, but so far, it’s pretty known that Infiniti and Mercedes-Benz are working on a new entry-level model for Infiniti, previewed with Frankfurt’s Q30 Concept.
