Report: This BMW i8 prototype crash could be the first documented incident with the model

Anyone who’s been in such a situation knows how humiliating it can be. But crashing an automobile is never fun, especially if it isn’t yours. But sometimes, it inevitably happens to the best of us—even us automotive journalist lot. Though to make us feel better through the idea that it can even happen to the pros, some new reports are in that a BMW test driver crashed a pretty valuable i8 prototype.

According to the reports, the 30-year-old driver was traveling at excessive speed in wet conditions. That of course, makes hydroplaning the likely cause of the crash. Apparent witnesses and crash investigators claimed that the i8 prototype spun and hit a center barrier on the freeway.

Valued in at over 200,000 Euros, the prototype even had thousands of Euros worth of testing equipment on board. Either way, this could be the first documented crash of the i8. And despite all that carbon fiber, the i8 also seems to withstand crashes as well as any other supercar. Good to know.
