Mitsubishi showcased a big collection of new concept cars at this year’s past Tokyo Auto Show in November. And unlike Mitsubishi concepts of the past, one might actually make it into production with a potential for coming stateside.
The new model could be based off of the Concept GC-PHEV SUV crossover, which sported a hybrid powertrain. The model would be used to showcase the next generation Pajero, which was previously sold here as the Montero—a rugged and capable off-roader that went head to head with the Land Rover Discovery and the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (or the less luxurious version of the Lexus GX here).
Mitsubishi also recently joined forces with Nissan-Renault, so there’s a distinct possibility some hybrid or powertrain technology could be shared there.
Though either way, the project has been confirmed by Mitsubishi’s current CEO, according to a report from AutomotiveNews. No word on a timeframe has been announced.
