Report: General Motors in the works with a new compact EV, to have a 200-mile range

During an exclusive interview with GM’s current CEO, Dan Akerson, amidst the appointment of the American auto giant’s new leader, Mary Barra, Akerson disclosed that General Motors is in the works with a new compact EV.

Details were kept to a minimum, but the new model was described to offer a range of around 200 miles with the option of being equipped with a range-extending gasoline, diesel, or natural gas engine—similar to the Chevrolet Volt’s system.

A launch date of 2015 is expected with a price point of around $30,000, which is a decent amount cheaper than the Chevrolet Volt, which starts at $34,995.
