Report: Ford mulling diesel, hybrid, and EV version of Mustang

Following the full debut of the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang, a new report surfaced suggesting that the Dearborn automaker could be on the path to producing a diesel, hybrid, and/or EV version of history’s most infamous Pony Car. This is reminiscent of the Mustang’s new mission to become a more global vehicle as Ford’s halo sports car, hence the more rounded and “versatile” design.

After speaking with Ford’s global powertrain chief, Bob Fascetti, of Australia heard the possibility of an oil-burning Mustang, as well as a hybrid variant with the possibility of an EV setup. There is even a possibility of a nine- or ten-speed automatic.

Ford is currently analyzing the possibilities, according to Fascetti. And with the current climate forcing automakers to save fuel and reduce CO2 emissions, these rumors could hold to be true. Though, official word is nonexistent.
