Report: Next gen Audi R8 to be 110-130lbs lighter than outgoing model
MotorTrend has learned that the next generation Audi R8 will be quite a bit lighter than the outgoing model, after speaking with the brand’s chief of technical development, Ulrich Hackenberg.
This comes thanks to the increased use of aluminum and carbon fiber throughout the chassis. Weight savings are estimated to hover between the 110-130lbs mark. For comparative purposes, the base 2014 R8 Spyder weighs in at a pretty porky 3,907lbs while the R8 V10 Plus Coupe weighs 3,678lbs.
A similar offering of a V8 or V10 is expected to be available, like the previous model. Though specifics obviously haven’t been disclosed.
