Report: Next gen Mazda MX-5 Miata to weigh around 2,204lbs

Despite recent setbacks with an icon, Mazda is still proceeding with maintaining its sporty reputation with an all-new Miata MX-5 due in 2015. According to a new report from Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport, the new Miata will weigh around 2,204lbs.

That’s not just lightweight in general, it’s significantly lighter than the outgoing model. This comes thanks to an all-new structure specifically designed to provide the new model with a better power-to-weight ratio.

In the process, Mazda is working on some new Skyactiv engines, which could see hybridization for the new generation, boosting fuel efficiency by 30 percent by 2018.
