Report: Mercedes still rumored to return with the straight-six for the new E-Class

Straight-six lovers rejoice! Because Mercedes-Benz will apparently be reviving their use of the straight-six for the new E-Class due sometime in 2016. The new mill is also expected to find its way into the 2017 C-Class and eventually, other models.

Rumors have been floating around suggesting Mercedes-Benz’s return to the beloved motor design after the brand dropped their last straight-six for a V6 in the late 1990s. Though details weren’t exactly shared.

In the same report, the new C-Class will also receive a new three-cylinder engine with engineers claiming the new motor was refined enough to Mercedes customers. Additionally, the future AMG C-Class is destined to get a twin-turbocharged 4.0L V8. Expect a plug-in hybrid variant as well.
