Report: Sport sedan based on Toyota GT 86 given green light for production

AutoExpressUK reports that Toyota has given a GT 86-based sedan the green light for production after rumors and reports have tossed about many possibilities, including a convertible version of the GT 86 sports coupe, based on the FT-86 Open Concept.

The word has apparently come from an “inside source” who said that the new sedan will be geared towards lovers of the compact sports sedan.

It will be offered with a longer wheelbase—by about 100mm—and the current GT 86’s Subaru-sourced 2.0L flat-four good for 197hp. A hybrid version based on Toyota’s latest Hybrid-R Concept is also said to take duty, providing 250-270hp.

The “insider” also said for us to expect to be an F1-style KERS system. A sale date is expected sometime in late 2015.
