Report: Mercedes-Benz AMG wants all-wheel drive to become a brand “core technology”

Mercedes-Benz is apparently falling in love with all-wheel drive as the brand’s CEO and Chairman, Tobias Moers, has told Australia’s Motoring.com.au that it will become a “core technology” for Mercedes-Benz AMG.

Moers cited recent success, mainly in the US, with all-wheel driven AMG models, such as the latest E63 and CLS63 AMG variants.

“We have certain markets where we have both cars [rear and AWD E 63] available… and the take rate is more than 90 per cent. So we get our answer out of the customer,” Moers said.

Though Moers did acknowledge the benefits of rear-wheel drive cars, saying that track-oriented cars cannot have a compromised front-end, suggesting that there could be more serious performance AMG versions without all-wheel drive for the serious driver. Let’s hope they do.
