Report: Off-road variants of GM’s new full-size trucks are on the table for consideration

AutomotiveNews reports General Motors is interested in offering off-road variants to their full-size SUV lines. These models include the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, as well as the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL. Such packaging includes heavier duty suspension, larger wheels, and unique styling cues—similar to that of Chevrolet’s previous Z71 off-road packages.

GM’s full-size leviathans have been able to survive the crunch towards unibody SUV crossovers due to their off-road ruggedness. GM seeks to embrace this demand, according to Jeff Luke, the executive engineer for GM trucks.

The new line and generation of GM full-size SUVs will begin hitting showrooms in March of 2015.
