Report: Chrysler’s new 2.0L Hurricane inline-four due in 2016

Chrysler will reportedly be releasing its completely new 2.0L four-banger, also nicknamed the Hurricane. Set to debut in 2016, the new engine will succeed the current line of Fiat-sourced Tigershark engines currently powering many Chrysler and familial brand models.

The Hurricane engine itself is based off of the 2.4L Tigershark four-banger, currently being launched in the all-new 2014 Jeep Cherokee revival. For the new Hurricane four-pot, a power rating from the 2.0L engine of 160hp and 148 lb-ft of torque is expected.

As of now, the 2.0L and 2.4L Tigershark engines have been updated extensively to improve efficiency and performance, with some technical additions such as electrohydraulic variable valvetrains, which Fiat revers to as their MultiAir 2 system.
