Report: Nissan’s Armada SUV will soldier on without giving into downsizing

Nissan will apparently be having its full-size SUV, the Armada, soldier into the next generation without any change to its size or proportion. It will apparently continue being a truck-based body-on-frame eight-passenger, despite the industry’s trend towards downsizing.

According to Nissan after speaking with Edmunds.com, Nissan sees a clear niche market for the big, classic SUV.

“This customer needs the size and the towing,” Rich Miller said to Edmunds, Nissan North America’s chief product specialist for the Titan and Armada. “That means we have to get innovative on how we are going to get our fuel economy improved.”

A timeframe wasn’t specified, but the redesigned Armada could be revealed in either 2015 or 2016 where it will continue competing against the Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, the Ford Expedition, and others.
