Report: Subaru STi’s BRZ teaser only for a “light tune” tS variant…?
The automotive news sphere recently lost its marbles over teasers released on Subaru STi’s homepage on Japan (we admittedly did here), which appear to suggest that Subaru is teasing an STi version of its beloved BRZ sports coupe. Enthusiasts and journalists alike have been waiting for any sort of inclination to suggest Subaru is indeed in the works with a high-performance version of the BRZ ever since the Concept version from the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show.
So naturally, the hint showcased on STi’s homepage was guaranteed to make many of us jump the gun on our conclusions, which seems to be the case with these teasers.
A new report was published via enthusiast site 7tune.com, which claims that the Subaru STi teasers are only for a slightly high performance version of the BRZ known as the tS, rather than a full-blown BRZ STi.
So what does that actually mean? Well, you know how BMW has their M-Performance Line, which are just basic BMW models with some “sports” packaging to incur a sort of “lightly tuned version,” rather than being bonafide M variants, apparently so is the same case with Subaru and their “tS” version.
But either way, the only thing this report actually does is keep the teasers in the air with more to ponder about. We won’t officially know what Subaru has up their sleeve until the Japanese automaker spills the beans themselves.
Either way, if it does end up being a “tS” version only, at least it’s one step closer to being a BRZ STi.
