Report: Mercedes-Benz to debut S-Class Coupe concept at Frankfurt this year

WorldCarFans reports via Auto Motor und Sport that Mercedes-Benz will be unveiling its future S-Class Coupe concept at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

According to their findings, spy photos were shot of a key-fob for the prototype spotted, which apparently read “CL 217.” WCF suggests that the internal coding on the key fob could mean Mercedes-Benz will be retaining the “CL” nomenclature, despite many news details pointing to a revival of the “S-Class Coupe” name.

Though this is highly unlikely as Mercedes-Benz’s recent choice to adopt the “E-Class Coupe” name, not to mention the “217” most likely stands for the “W217” chassis as the last generation CL-Class is internally referred to as the W216. The CL could just be there to remind the R&D team that this is the CL-Class, just with a different name.

Either way, because the S-Class sedan was revealed not too long ago, the S-Class Coupe is very much the next model on deck for revealing.
