Report: Mercedes-Benz SLC coupe due supposedly in 2016, complete with a Black Series model

After Mercedes-Benz’s success with introducing a spiritual descendant to their most famous automobile, the original 300SL Gullwing, word has been circulating regarding a more affordable version. This version has been rumored to be called the SLC and described to strictly be a Porsche 911 fighter.

Though the bigger news is WorldCarFans reporting that Mercedes is apparently going to give the SLC a Black treatment as well. The original car is described to ride on an all-aluminum space-frame chassis, much like its bigger sibling, the SLS, and only a coupe will be offered.

Three powerplants are expected, according to the original report by Germany’s AutoBild, with the Black Series version churning out 585hp out of a 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8. The base engine will be the same, though with 485hp to boot along with an S version good for 550hp.

A launch date is projected to be sometime in 2016 with a base price for the SLC hovering around $141,000 or €109,000.
