The Hyundai Genesis sedan can be labeled as the epitome of the brand’s turnaround since it was the South Korean automaker’s first attempt at a rear-wheel drive premium sedan. Though despite the fact that it fell a little short in the performance department, they still did a very decent job making one.

That said, there’s a lot to be excited about when it comes to pondering about what’s next for the all-new second generation Genesis sedan as Hyundai has truly exhibited its ability to make automobiles that aren’t so terrible to drive. So they could very well be upping the ante for the next generation, which Edmunds.com says is due for a debut at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show for a 2015 model year.

“You will see the Genesis at the Detroit auto show,” said Hyundai Motor America’s Brandon Ramirez. However, Ramirez was described to have kept his cards close by only saying that the new exterior will be an evolution of Hyundai’s current “fluidic sculpture” design philosophy.

Let’s not also forget that we also received some reasonable previews as to what to expect with the evolution of Hyundai’s design language through examples such as the 2013 Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis Concept from the 2013 Detroit Auto Show and the 2013 HND-9 Sports Coupe, which debuted at the Seoul Motor Show in South Korea this year as well. The brand’s spokesman, Derek Joyce, told Edmunds that the HCD-14 is not the next Genesis, though we will see many design cues inspired from it.

Hyundai has admitted before that their current Genesis sedan was aimed specifically at the same demographic that springs for the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the BMW 3-Series. Unfortunately, Hyundai never received the success they sought. Resultantly, Ramirez did say that Hyundai is keeping a close eye on addressing the shortcomings in terms of handling and ride performance. All-wheel drive will also be available for the new generation.
