Following some rumors that Audi wanted to seriously expand their Q-Line of crossover SUVs, AutoCarUK reports that the Ingosltadt brand has confirmed to be developing a Q8 crossover to combat the all-new 2014 Range Rover Sport.
Audi’s R&D boss, Wolfgang Durheimer, apparently told the British publication the good news. Durheimer described the Q8 to-be to utilize a “coupe-style roofline” and will essentially be marketed as an A8 on stilts.
The Q8 will be based on an elongated version of VW AG’s now ubiquitous MLB modular platform, which also underpins the future Q7, Porsche Cayenne, and Volkswagen Touareg.
“We can go bigger than we have with the Q7, and we can all see that this sector is growing,” remarked Dürheimer, “Audi has the biggest SUV in the group, and I don’t see any reason to change that.”
