As Alfa Romeo slowly trickles their way back into the US market, thanks to Fiat, it’s clear that Sergio Marchionne has his eyes set on the current industry leaders in the mass-market luxury segments. That said, there’s reason to suspect that Alfa Romeo will be coming out with a slew of new models to combat the already long list of models offered from the big dogs in Germany and Japan.

As one of those incoming models, CARandDRIVER reports that Alfa is planning a midsized luxury vehicle aimed towards the BMW 5-Series and BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe. C/D believes that it could like the all-new Alfa 6C Concept Coupe, which was showcased at this year’s auto show in Geneva. The design was produced by Alexander Imnadze, a student at the Instituto Europeo di Design, or IED, in Turin, Italy—Fiat’s hometown.

The chassis is said to be based off of the incoming Maserati Ghibli. Though much like Maserati and Ferrari, Fiat is working overtime to ensure that there is no product overlap in the form of badge engineering by making the Alfa differ significantly from its Ghibli roots.

There will be two versions of the potential and future “6C,” a coupe and a sedan, in which the coupe may heavily resemble the concept pictured. Additionally, because the Ghibli is the Alfa’s starting point, rear-wheel drive will once again be reestablished as Alfa’s choice of platforms. Rear-wheel drive biased all-wheel drive will also be option as Sergio plans on Alfa being a “one-up sportier alternative” to BMW.

So far, CARandDRIVER is inclined to say that the future “6C” will be receiving a new twin-turbocharged V6 based off of Chrysler’s all-new Pentastar V6, after receiving a soft treatment from Ferrari to help it perform more “Alfa-like.” Estimated horsepower has been pegged to be around 410, though the final number has great potential to exceed that, depending on the tune. The new incoming turbodiesel destined for the Maserati Ghibli is also said to make an appearance on the “6C” with a high chance of it reaching our soil.

No specific timeframe, though it wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect it within the next few years. Only time will tell.
