Report: Mercedes-Benz to expand CLA-Class lineup with a shooting brake/estate version

Mercedes-Benz recently unveiled its new subcompact luxury sports sedan known as the CLA-Class. Now, WhatCar? reports that Mercedes-Benz is already expanding its offerings with the CLA-Class, beginning with a CLA-based shooting brake.

Mercedes-Benz’s design chief, Gordon Wagener, told WhatCar? that the shooting brake would complement the CLA-Class lineup, along with the anticipated GLA-Class crossover SUV.

“The CLA is a four-door coupe as well, so why not do it?” remarked Wagener.

But to put some rumors to rest, Wagener also hinted that a sportier A-Class model, which would’ve taken the form as a small coupe or convertible, has been canned as he said, “We don’t need a sports car, the market is declining.”

No word as to when we could expect this CLA-Class shooting brake, or whether or not us Americans will receive it. But we don’t doubt that it should be within the next year or so.
