Say goodbye to the Volkswagen Routan. Not that it would truly be missed much, as it was just a gussied up and rebadged Chrysler/Dodge Town and Caravan thing.
AutomotiveNews reported that Volkswagen will be dropping the Routan after the 2013 model year, despite the People’s Car maker reporting an annual sales rate of 45,000 units per year since the Routan’s introduction in 2008. However, any 2013 Routans built will be used just for Volkswagen’s fleet use.
According to the report, Chrysler hasn’t made a Routan at its plant in Ontario since July of 2012 as the agreement with Chrysler is set to expire at the end of this year. But since the Routan is dying out, does Volkswagen have anything in store for a successor? Volkswagen said that it still to be determined since the market demand is edging towards SUVs and crossovers.
