Report: Maserati working on Ghibli four-door coupe to compete with Audi A7 and Mercedes CLS

MotorTrend reports that Maserati is apparently speeding up the development of a new smaller sedan. Because the Quattroporte has in some ways matured to better compete against the BMW 7-Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and the Audi A8, Maserati seeks to bridge the competition even closer with a mid-sized sedan.

The midsized sedan to be is said to take the classic Ghibli name. But instead of going head to head with the likes of the BMW 5-Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and the Audi A6, the Ghibli will be designed to run against the Audi A7 and Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class a la “four-door coupe.”

So far, engines are speculated to be lifted from the new Quattroporte, which means a twin-turbocharged V6 and V8. Rumors are that an all-wheel drive twin-turbo V8 model may also be a possibility.
