Report: Volkswagen planning CC Shooting Brake by 2015, to plug lineup gap between Passat and Phaeton

AutoCarUK reports that Volkswagen is pursuing plans to produce a sleeker and more practical version of its sexy Passat CC four-door coupe, called the CC Shooting Brake. According to this report, Volkswagen will be making the CC Shooting Brake from its versatile MQB modular architecture.

Tentatively set for a launch in early 2015, the CC Shooting Brake is said to be longer than the CC sedan itself and will fill the gap between the Passat and the flagship Phaeton.

AutoCarUK also speculated that we could expect the same assortment of transverse mounted four-bangers, gas and diesel. Though no word on Volkswagen’s sonorous narrow-angle V6. Front-wheel drive will be standard, like in the current CC, and 4MOTION all-wheel drive will be optional.

“The market for estates continues to grow and we want to expand our sales potential,” an anonymous insider told AutoCarUK. “We see a definite trend towards the so-called Shooting Brake. Whether we decide to adopt that name remains undecided.”
