Report: Alfa Romeo 4C to get 237hp base engine, only 2,000 total to be made

More information has surfaced regarding the much anticipated Alfa Romeo 4C with the help of CarScoop, to a Swiss auto dealer who attended an Alfa Romeo meeting earlier this month.

According to this report, the 4C’s 1.7L turbocharged four-pot is going to produce 237hp for the base model versus 300hp, which makes it the same engine as in the Alfa Romeo Giulietta QV.

Thanks to a carbon fiber chassis with a pegged curb weight of 1,874lbs, that four-pot should do the 4C some good justice in the performance department.

Pricing should range between €56,000 and €64,000, which would be something to the tune of $76,400-$87,300 in US greens. This would allow for the Alfa Romeo 4C to be aimed more directly at the base Porsche Cayman, which it seeks to compete against.

Production is said to be limited to just 1,000 coupes and 1,000 roadsters for a grand total of 2,000 units. This number also includes a harder track-only “racing” version as well as a road-legal sportier Stradale version, which are expected to show their faces in 2014.
