BMW enthusiast site BimmerBoost reports that the Roundel has openly expressed interest in introducing a unique high-performance lineup that will compete against the likes of Mercedes-Benz AMG’s Black Series lineup. This comes after some indicative tweets from an interview that occurred at this year’s Detroit Auto Show.
During an apparent interview with BMW M of USA, Marc Noordeloos of Automobile Magazine tweeted that some sources at BMW said that they “’promise it will [be] an interesting year’ regarding questions about AMG Black Series competition from BMW M.”
In a following tweet, BMW M also reportedly said: “USA is our most important market. Expect 1-2 special cars in the coming years (Re: AMG Black Series competition).”
Additionally, as a confirmation, Noordeloos replied to a tweet by BimmerBoost confirming the interview with BMW M executives for the Detroit Auto Show.
It certainly is some interesting news. In addition to the revived rumor about a BMW Audi R8 competitor, it seems my list of questions continue to grow for when I next see the BMW M’s Division at this year’s New York Auto Show.
