Report: Volkswagen will resume Routan production in 2013

Volkswagen Routan

Volkswagen has killed any rumors that its Routan minivan will end production. Last week, Volkswagen told Bloomberg that it was undecided whether to continue assembling the Routan, which is produced by Chrysler at its Windsor, Ontario plant.

Volkswagen is now saying that production of the Chrysler-built minvan will resume by summer 2013.

Volkswagen spokesman Scott Vazin told Automotive News that the company plans “to offer the 2013 model year Routan” without changes and that it will continue to be assembled in Windsor.

Chrysler has built 8,882 units of the Routan between Jan. 1, 2012 and Dec. 15, 2012 – down 38% from the same period last year.
