Mazda CX-5 names Japan’s Car of the Year for 2012

Get ready for all the different publications to announce their ‘Car of the Year’ awards as we approach the end of 2012. This year, the Mazda CX-5 has won the 2012 Japan Car of the Year award. Last year, the Nissan LEAF took the top honors.

Rounding out the top 5 were the Mazda CX-5 with 363 votes, the Toyota GT 86 with 318 votes, the BMW 3 Series with 282 votes, the Range Rover Evoque with 218 votes and the Volkswagen Up! with 152 votes.

“We are thrilled to have the CX-5 receive such a coveted award”, said Mazda Executive Officer Kiyoshi Fujiwara. “Spurred on by this honor, we will continue to dedicate ourselves to the task of crafting cars that only Mazda can, in order to continue winning the support of our fans and customers into the future.”

The CX-5 is the fourth Mazda to win the Japan COTY title.
