Report: Toyota recalls 670,000 Prius units in the United States
Toyota Motor Corp. said that it will be recalling a total of 2.77 million vehicles worldwide. The recall affects a total of 670,000 Prius hybrids in the United States. The issue lies in a fix for a possible water pump problem and steering defect.
In total, the issue covers five models globally.
The Toyota Prius models recalled in the United States are from the 2004 to 2009 model years.
Toyota said that U.S. dealers will inspect the intermediate extension shaft in Prius steering systems and replace if needed. Inspection and repair should take about one hour, Toyota said.
