Popular Mechanics is introducing its first ever Auto Excellence Award and for its first ever Car of the Year award, the magazine has chosen the Ford Escape to receive the top hours.

“This is an affordable vehicle that excels in multiple auto excellence categories, not just one,” Popular Mechanics said. “No vehicle hit a variety of marks harder or topped more editors’ scorecards than the all-new 2013 Ford Escape. The Escape is freshly minted, with a solid new chassis shared with the European Ford Kuga. It’s still a compact crossover, but there’s more room inside for people and gear.”

    Not a very auspicious start for the Award.
    Being “Popular Mechanics” surely the award should have been for car that would appeal mechanically, maybe a big pickup or a 4-door jeep wrangler?

    Choosing a Ford Escape just
